This student took Geometry through South Mecklenburg High School, but was homeschooled for most of the semester.
Although his study skills were intially weak, he had a strong aptitude for mathematics. By determining what things interested him, I was able to raise his motivation and consequently increase his performance.
Mr. Mayville has tutored Geometry to my son for 3 months on a three-day-a-week schedule. My son had an "F" average before he began meeting with his math tutor. Now, he has brought that average up to a B!
Listening to Mr. Mayville teach, I can understand why my son likes him. He has such a deep knowledge of math and connects it to everyday events that interest kids. He also has an ability to explain mathematical ideas using language that kids relate to.
My son's opinion of Mr. Mayville is very high. He stated to me that Mr. Mayville has been the "coolest teacher I ever had...he taught me so much, especially things on the computer."
